Take concrete measures to fulfill the responsibilities of environmental protection
In order to fulfill the responsibilities of environmental protection and preserve the rights of interested parties, TSRC introduced ISO-14001 environmental management system and obtained the certificate from the third party in 1998. According to the environmental policy: "cherish the resources of the earth, fulfill the responsibilities of environmental protection, conduct continuous improvements, and ensure the sustainability of enterprises”, TSRC facilitates the operation of the system, thus showing its determination to honor its commitment and constantly improve the environment.

TSRC specifies and enforces the objectives and programs for saving energy  and reducing wastes. Meanwhile, TSRC improves the overall producing efficiency and reduces the consumption of  resources and the generation of waste by optimizing the manufacturing procedures and recycling the raw materials

TSRC has obtained the permits for water pollution control measure plans to fit in with the relevant acts and keeps on controlling the quality of waste water by means of setting up a waste water monitoring station and adopting strict measures to ensure that the waste water meets the requirements for its access to waste water treatment plants in industrial zones. Besides, it invests in waste water recycling and treatment facilities and successfully recycles around 440,000 tons of waste water per-year.

TSRC has obtained the permits for the industrial waste clearance plan to fit in with relevant acts. The general and hazardous industrial wastes are subject to the management system which is strictly maintained. The waste storage is well managed, meanwhile, its removal is tracked and reported in order to cautiously prevent environmental pollution. Besides, TSRC also tries its best to reduce the quantity of industrial wastes by optimizing the manufacturing procedures.

TSRC has obtained the installation and operation permits for air pollution control facilities and continuous emission monitoring system of boilers. And TSRC performs regular analysis of the stacks emission as well. By monitoring, analyzing and tracking the results, TSRC ensures that all air emission can fit in with the relevant acts.

As for toxic chemical substances which are officially announced and need to be well controlled, TSRC has applied for relevant permits, registration and approval to meet relevant acts and can fit in with the request for reporting regular records to competent authorities. TSRC also offers various training programs for the prevention of toxic chemical substances and takes effective measures to prevent the emission or leakage from toxic chemical substances vessels, all for ensuring the safety of the personnel.

TSRC conducts noise testing all over the relevant workplace regularly to meet acts and also performs testing for the low-frequency noise around the plant. Though results of noise testing are all in line with the relevant acts in recent years, TSRC has kept on actively engaging in the purchasing of noise prevention equipment and the developing of noise control technology.

The management of greenhouse gas emission is not only a global issue but also a challenge for the petrochemical industry. By upholding the concept of "cherishing the resources of the earth and fulfilling the responsibilities of environmental protection”, TSRC has made unremitting efforts for energy saving, resources & raw materials recycling, and producing efficiency improving since its foundation in 1973. To cooperate with the promotion of greenhouse gas reduction plans  by competent authorities, TSRC has taken the following measures:
(1) Under the authorization of Economic Ministry, Taiwan Green Productivity Foundation has verified that TSRC has reduced 37,520 tons of CO2 equivalent emission through its adoption of “Voluntary Energy Conservation and Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction” during 2004~2008.
(2)  In order to reach the goal of voluntary greenhouse gas emission reduction, TSRC has signed the “Agreement on Voluntary Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction” with the Economic Ministry in 2010. It is expected that TSRC can reduce another 4,022 tons of CO2 equivalent emission during 2011~ 2015.
(3) TSRC plans to obtain the ISO 14064-1 certificate of greenhouse gas for its Kaohsiung and Gangshan plants in 2011 to serve as a reference for the follow-up greenhouse gas emission reductions.
